A Bit of Inspiration: Be Responsible for Your Energy

I heard this quote for the first time while watching an interview between Oprah and Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor. Dr. Taylor, a former brain scientist,  suffered a devastating stroke that changed her forever. Her new life lead her to a new way of being which she shared in her book, “My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist’s Personal Journey”.

When discussing energy, Dr. Jill Botle Taylor talked about how when she was in the hospital that she had very little energy. She realized that when you interact with people that they are either bringing you energy or taking energy away. She decided that she preferred for people to bring her energy. She wanted them to bring her hope, touch her and bring loving energy to her.

In order to take responsibility for your energy, you have to step into awareness. You have to know whether you are walking into a room and polluting it with negative energy or if you are infusing it with positive energy. But, whatever you are doing, you have to take responsibility for it. I have been in situations where I was in a great mood and someone walks into the room and the next thing I know I find myself pulled into an argument. In the past, I used to be bewildered and I would blame myself that maybe I was making a big deal out of nothing. What I have realized is that if someone draws you into their negative energy that they can bring down your energy, which is how you can be drawn into an argument when you weren’t upset.

Now that I have this awareness, I can take responsibility for my energy. I hope that everyone else take responsibility for theirs, but I can always make sure that I take care of mine. Now, when someone walks in with negativity and I feel good, I leave their negativity with them. I prefer to enjoy my good energy, my hope and my love. I’ll share, but only if you meet me halfway.
