I Want to Love You

© Dyanne Brown

I want to love you
But I’ve suffered too much pain
I want to love you
But I don’t want to hurt again
I want to love you
But I’m afraid I’ll go insane
I want to love you
But what would I gain
I would love you
If not for my shame
I could love you
If you’d take the blame
I should love you
But we’re not the same
I thought about loving you
But my love is feign
Because loving you
Is not my aim
If I loved you
I’d have to stop my game
I want to love you
Until you became
What I expected
Someone I couldn’t tame
I want to love you
Just to feel love
To get the love pumping
Through my vein
Getting me high
Like dopamine
I want to love to you
Gain fame
So everyone that knows you
Will now know my name
I could love you
For a million wrong reasons
But I want to love you
For a million more
That are sane
I want to love you
Because I desire

The thought of you
Creates fire
I want to love you
Because of your smile
Your laugh
Your thoughts
I never tire
You’ve become someone
I admire
I want to love you
You inspire in a way
that my life requires
I want to love you
Because in your mere presence
I perspire
And with you I want to push myself
Higher and higher
You are the one thing
I am to acquire
Because I know once I have you
I want to love you
Until I expire
And after all I’ve been through
At times, it feels crazy
But, I move through it
And bravely
I succumb to this amazing
Drive that makes me want
Have to
Need to
I want to love you
Beyond all reason
And strangely
I find safety
In the love I feel inside
I want to love you
For a million reasons wrong
And a million right
I know that each morning I wake up
And before bed each night
I want to love you

  1. wow I enjoyed this poem. there was something about it that spoke to me I am not sure if it was the lines, the under lying meaning of the emotions that surely pokes its head out of this poem. But i urge you to keep up the good work.
